However, Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, follows a separate timetable and can shift when the first day of a month falls on a weekend or federal holiday.

That calendar adjustment will affect payments in July and August 2026.

SSI benefits are normally issued on the first day of each month. Recipients will receive their regular July payment on July 1. But instead of August’s SSI payment arriving on August 1, it will be deposited early on July 31.

As a result, SSI recipients will receive two payments in July and no SSI payment in August.

Why August SSI Payments Arrive Early

The schedule change happens because August 1 falls on a Saturday.

When the first day of a month lands on a weekend or holiday, the Social Security Administration moves the payment date to the previous business day. That means the August SSI payment will be issued on Friday, July 31.

More Early SSI Payments Later in the Year

SSI payments will return to the regular first-of-the-month schedule in September and October.

However, another early payment will arrive on October 30, because November 1 falls on a Sunday.

SSI recipients will also receive two payments in December: one on December 1 and another on December 31. The second December payment will represent the January 2027 SSI benefit, issued early because January 1, 2027, is the New Year’s Day holiday.

Who Receives SSI Benefits?

SSI provides financial support to older adults, blind individuals and people with disabilities who have very limited income and resources.

The average monthly SSI payment is $737.

Traditional Social Security Payment Schedule

Regular Social Security benefits are paid according to the recipient’s birth date.

People born from the 1st through the 10th receive benefits on the second Wednesday of the month.

Those born from the 11th through the 20th are paid on the third Wednesday.

Beneficiaries born from the 21st through the 31st receive payments on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Different Schedule for Some Beneficiaries

A separate schedule applies to people who started receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 or those who receive both Social Security and SSI.

In those cases, Social Security payments are usually issued on the third day of the month, while SSI payments arrive on the first day.

Average Social Security Payment in 2026

The average Social Security payment in 2026 is $2,081 per month.

SSI recipients should expect two payments in July 2026 because the August payment will be sent early on July 31.
